If you are a pet lover like myself, then you love to take your little pooch around the neighborhood, as all dogs love to walk with there owners in public.  And given that most towns require a leash to be around your dogs neck, then it is the most important piece of accessory that you will buy Your Dog.  Now there are many options t Choose From when it comes to buying a leash for your dog.  Your breeder or Veterinarian may have talked to you about a Training Lead for your dog; your friends and family may have mentioned a leather leash or Nylon Leash. So which should you buy?

First of all, let’s talk about the types of Dog Leashes.  There are two types to begin with. The first one is for the activity i just mentioned; walking.  The second type is for training.  But if you have been to a pet store recently, with these two types are endless choices.  y personal opinion is that you should acquire both.  Now in terms of choosing the best type of training leash for your puppy should be a long nylon leash.

Now if you are going to teach your dog how to “come” on command, then you should be using Dog Training leads.

When we talk about the standard leash, then what we mean is the leash that is either leather or nylon.  This is also the most purchased by dog owners and they come in many types of decorations in terms of style.  The nylon type can have on it a reflective strip so that other people (who might be in cars) can see it at night.  They also come in six foot length, which is what most towns require in order to be able to walk the dog without breaking the law.

Now when we talk about the good old standard leash, then we see that they can come in different types of styles and fashion.  They can also be single or double leash.  Use both hands on the lease when you are using this or any other type of leash.  The sequence is one through the looped end and and the other halfway down the rope.  This will give you optimal placement of the leash on the dogs neck right below the ears.  This is important as if it is not placed correctly, it can hurt your dog.

If you are the type, and i am, that likes to take your dog on those daily rides, then a bicycle leash is what you want to have.  These are specialty types leashes that involve an aluminum tube with a plastic cable running inside the tube then back out to allow ease of movement for your dog.

Another type of Dog Lease is the retractable Dog Leash.  These have become quite known the past few years.  Now understand that these are NOT training leashes.  You would only use these leashes AFTER they have learned the heel and come commands.  So you can have your dog roam freely around wth this on, knowing that if any “unforeseen” instances happen, you can reign the dog in.

The final type of dog leash that i will be talking about is the martingale leash which is sometimes also known as the “show-leash”.  the reason why it is called ths is because it is used the most by Show Dog owners to show there dogs with.   Essentially, it is a One Size fits all type of leash.  In one instance, the have a choke collar feature without actually choking the dog, and also a leash for walking the dog around the neighborhood.   It rides high on the dogs neck, and when you pull (gentlely) on the leash, it pulls tight on your dog, but it will not choke your dog.  You can use this leash when you go out for your afternoon, morning, or night time runs with the doggy.

So there are several different types of leashes that you can Give Your dog, depending on the stage that he is in and what you are looking to accomplish.  So bottom line, make sure that you have at least the training and the walking ones, as they are the two main ones.  So go out there and get that leash!!
